So i’m not even half way through the tutorial as i lack the time to play it frequently/ But I will keep trying and probably gradually learn more. (Maybe it is a signal of a lack of talent or a hopeless case). At that stage the constantly repeated “Let try that again” gets a bit tiring. Sometimes it took me 45 mins to complete a lesson and had to repeat the riff for over 50 times in slowed-down mode, while I still butchered most of the final version of the riff. But when the actual assignments start it can be quite hard. Though the first few sessions are more instructions about posture and the guitar itself. We have been working through the basic lessons that address many aspects that were unknown to me from my class guitar background, strumming, bending the strings ect. However sometimes the explanatory videos or instruction text is not entirely clear, making it hard to complete the assignment. And then, the tutor is mostly straightforward. The tuning section is very good and fairly quick. It plays well, although we sometimes struggle with the three dimensional views and string movements that can be confusing. The game/tutor looks very good with sharp clips and graphics all in proper rock-style.

And we opted for the 2014 Rocksmith version as that was much more friendly priced than the remastered version, the Real Tone cable was still included and I wasn’t quite sure about the lasting appeal.

So we recently bought a cheap, entry-level electric guitar. Nevertheless, this game got me interested as it could possible take my knowledge and skills a few steps further without having the obligation to find and visit a tutor. I know a decent set of chords can play quite some songs with a little practice but lI simply lack a lot of skill. I’m only a rookie autodidact classic guitar player. We waited a long time to buy this game/tutorial but I’ve always been fascinated by it. There are a few other cool parts to this game but to save writing an essay, check a video review for more in-depth content. You will still need to practice other skills. Overall id say it's a good buy to have a play with different songs, genres and styles and learn some techniques and inspire you to pick up the guitar but don't expect to be the next malmstein just from this. The real-tone cable is great and works on other systems too so you can plug your guitar into your computer and start making music on there too if you fancy mixing it up. Unfortunately they're still limited though & some big names aren't on there like Floyd or led Zeppelin due to their mental copyright & you won't find smaller bands or a huge range of metal but you'll find a lot of popular rock songs and many classics. Each dlc track is around £2 to buy so be prepared to spend your money. The song list is varied so there's something for most people in the original content, and there's a stupidly big list as buyable dlc.

So you will definitely need to get your guitar properly set up if it isn't already, or learn how to do it yourself (there are loads of YouTube videos to show you how). The biggest challenge you will find with this game is if your guitar is not intonated properly then it won't register some of your notes and this can be exceptionally annoying and frustrating in any aspect of the game. Some of them are brilliant and you can see how they relate to your technique and skill practices whereas others are just a complete waste of time.

The skill games are a bit of a funny one. I'd highly recommend watching a video review on YouTube to get an in-depth look before buying though.įor me, it encourages me to pick up the guitar and play & learn some new songs and is REALLY handy for learning songs specifically. It's quite disorientating at first and awkward to get used to but after a couple of hours you'll have it down & used to which string is which and have good timing. This game is definitely hit or miss with most people.
